Am I back?

Hey guys,

I’m currently sat in the library and I remembered…I have a blog!? I never visit, update or blog anymore, which is kinda sad considering I actually really enjoy it. I am planning on some new blog posts and make this more personal, as before it was for uni and to get marked but now I want to turn it into a hobby, and also a place to chat crap. Once I get into the swing of things again, there shall be regular blog posts so look out for that!

Thanks for being patient. Oh and Happy 2017 😉 Only A month and a week late.

DECHOX

As a quick last minute decision I have decided to take part in DECHOX and raise money for a great cause such as The British Heart Foundation. This ‘challenge’ is to give up chocolate for the whole month of March. Yes, that’s right. 31 days. My birthday is this month too so I am going to find it very difficult but I am determined.

You can donate to my just giving page here: www.justgiving.com/katydoran/

I am aiming to raise at least £100.

If you are also taking part in #DECHOX. Then I wish you the best of luck also…

Goodbye, sweet old friend.

A whole month.

Oh dear. I haven’t started this year blogging off to a good start. I can blame it on University and not having the time but I wont. Because doing the thing’s you enjoy you don’t make excuses and I often tend to do this. I enjoy adult colouring books and just spending an hour or two colouring away for the night, but I don’t do it. I enjoy reading new books and old, getting lost in a reality that isn’t my own…yet I don’t do it. I enjoy drawing and sketching, which I also hardly do anymore. One main thing I love to do is YouTube and its been 3 whole months since I last uploaded anything. This makes me quite sad. Why aren’t I doing the stuff I love day in/day out? Surely my day’s would improve so much more doing the things I enjoy than the things I just tolerate (like university).

Anyways… that’s my little thought process of today. Sorry I have been horrible at blog posts. I hope to get into the swing of it soon!

Until next time,

My top 5 TV shows

TV JUNKIE SAY WHAAAA??

Hi everyone, today I want to share with you my favourite TV programs that I stayed up many nights losing sleep over…no, really. I did. The only reason I am sharing this with you guys is because I want you to appreciate them as much as I do.

  • Gossip Girl. (Available on Netflix)

Gossip Girl follows the lives of privileged teenagers on the upper east side. Many drama’s and story lines unfold in Gossip Girl keeping you hooked to the screen. An anonymous blogger, i.e Gossip Girl, sends out gossip about these teenagers. Do you know who gossip girl is?…I won’t spoil it for you…but…meh … This TV series has 6 seasons all together. It is my all time favourite, I can’t lie to you. Ugh Nate Archibald just owns my heart ngl 😉gossip girl

  • Greys Anatomy. (PM if you want to watch this online)

Grey’s Anatomy is an American medical drama television series and is currently in its 12th season. There is never a dull moment in this TV series as not only it focuses on patients and their storys but also the workers backgrounds, you can’t help but to feel personally involved with everyone’s relationships in this show. I am currently on season 7, but already it has made me cry, laugh, ponder… it’s just amazing. Also, I feel as though I could perform open hear surgery, even though I am a Media student with BTEC science’s, hahaha.greys

  • American Horror Story (Available on Netflix)

I began watching AHS back in 2013, I watched 1 episode, then 2, then 3, then 4, then suddenly I finished a whole season in one night. AHS is horror based with creepy stuff happening. Each season is completely different to the next. Season 1 is Murder House. Season 2 is Asylum. Season 3 is Coven. Season 4 is Freak show. And last but not least, season 5 is Hotel. Each actor is playing a different character in each season. And each season has a different ‘story’. There is always a debate into which one is the best, personally I choose Asylum. The plot twists in this season left my jaw dragging across the floor and screaming ‘NOOOO’.

  • SCREAM (Available on Netflix)

SCREAM is exactly what you think it is, an american TV show where a masked killer goes round killing ‘innocent’ teenagers. But whom is this masked killer you say? well, well, well… just keep an eye out on your so called friend is all I say. This show is something I wouldn’t normally watch but after the first two episodes I really wanted to watch more to see what would happen, and let me tell you. I was not disappointed by this TV show created by MTV. I would say watch this at least once if you are interested because I found it really easy to watch and follow.

  • MISFITS (Available on Netflix)

Misfits is a British science fiction comedy-drama television show, on E4, about a group of young offenders sentenced to work in a community service program. After a brutal ‘storm’ these young offenders have bigger fish to fry than before. They find themseves with powers of what the storm gave to them. I loved watching this show with my boyfriend. It was something we both enjoyed, which is pretty rare. But overall a decent TV show that made me excited each time I was going to watch a new episode!!

Becoming a Vegetarian…

Hi everyone! Sorry I haven’t blogged in a while. I’ve been getting back into the swings of university and what not. However, I am BACK!!!

In the new year, 2nd January at 8:36pm I watched a show on Netflix called ‘Vegucated‘. I actually shed tears at this show, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. My heart sunk to the bottom of my stomach, I felt sick. I couldn’t believe what I was allowing all these 18 years of eating meat. It opened up my ignorant eyes and that night I turned Vegetarian. Yes the show focuses on Vegan, but currently with my income and that I am at university it would be difficult at this moment in time, so I am a Vegetarian.

What I noticed since becoming Vegetarian:

  • crueltyMeat is everywhere
  • Quorn is really expensive
  • Quorn ham is disgusting 😛
  • People look at you funny when you tell them you’re a vegetarian
  • I’ve eaten a lot of cheese
  • I feel lighter after my meals
  • I am choosing the healthier meals at restaurants
  • It’s so much easier than I thought it would be

Here are some more educational videos about how the meat and dairy industry hurt our animals:

  • Forks over knives (2011)
  • Earthlings (2007)eat veggie
  • Cowspiracy (2014)
  • The Cove (2009)
  • Crazy Sexy Cancer (2007)
  • Live and Let Live (2013)

  • A lifelong vegetarian will save 5 cows, 760 chickens, 1/2 tonne fish, 29 sheep/lamb, 20 pigs.
  • Meat contains saturated fats, cholesterol, hormones and antibiotics and toxins.
  • A vegetarian diet could feed more people: 80-95% of the grain grown in the US is fed livestock. Many more people could be fed on the soy beans and grain grown for animals.
  • The livestock industry produces 18% more C02 emissions than transport

FAMOUS VEGETARIANS:

  1. Ellen DeGeneres
  2. Prince
  3. Ozzy Osbourne
  4. Gandhi
  5. Mike Tyson
  6. Albert Einstein
  7. Paul McCartney
  8. Leondardo da Vinci
  9. Brad Pitt
  10. Steve Jobs

These were just a few interesting facts. Are you a vegetarian/Vegan? Would you ever consider going one? Write in the comments below 🙂

Until next time,

New year, New me?

Sample image

Cliche, I know. But it’s true… In 2016 I want to change myself for the better. I want to be the happiest I could possibly be and have the most fun-filled year. Here are a few resolutions I want to achieve.

Eat healthier

I really want to control my diet more and eat more amazing stuff that helps the body instead of breaking it down. I have gradually started this by buying less and less crisps and sweets but I want to stop eating them all together.

Work out more.

This comes hand in hand with eating healthier. But I overall want to lose weight and start treating my body right, because at the moment I treat it as a dumping ground.

Say YES to more things.

I am often finding myself saying ‘no’ and trying to find ways out of events that have been planned because of some anxious thoughts or not enough money, so I want to live a little more this year and start doing stuff out of my comfort zone… because when I do stuff out of my comfort zone they are often the best memories I create.

YouTube.

I currently have a YouTube channel, I often post the odd video here and there but I want to film more stuff, so I have memories to look back on when I am older. I want to start growing my YouTube channel because currently it is on 200 subscribers and has been since 2013. Wow.

Blogging.

I’ve only recently started blogging but I am REALLY enjoying it. I hope to blog a lot and grow, as it’s something I love to do.

Travel.

I NEEEEEED to travel more. I love to go on adventures and I want to go on more adventures, ahhhhh would be amazing!

Pass my first year at uni.

I have been working hard in each and every module and hope to pass first year with a 1:1. This would make me super happy and know that my hard work pays off.

And that’s all I can think of at the moment but they are all stuff I definitely want to achieve. Comment below telling me ONE of your new years resolutions this year.

Cahootify? Cahootify.

cahootify

“Showcase your skills, crew your projects”

Cahootify is an international online project portfolio and team-forming platform for film, media and entertainment professionals. Cahootify allows you to progress your career for free. It can be used internal or external by the use of Hubs. Hubs are groups of that community, for example. Leeds Trinity University would be an internal Hub, by only recruiting members from Leeds Trinity University. If Leeds Trinity University were to expand it would then become external as they would be recruiting members from all over the world, rather than in the community themselves. The initial spark for Cahootify was for the idea that “no-one has yet successfully launched a major platform that’s all about forming teams for projects”. Cahootify is currently the only successful website that is all about teams and projects.

“Cahootify is for people who are committed, engaged and up for making stuff happen. People who know what it takes to build a career in the industry, are prepared to get on with it, and are seeking others to work with who match their commitment and professionalism.”

This video sums up Cahootify in a fun visual way, with great explanation.

As a young aspiring creative individual hoping to get into film, media and entertainment sector of work. I think this website is perfect. I can gain experience in projects to build up a portfolio as I am currently a ‘newbie’ to all of this. In Cahootify terms means that I will be happy to do projects for experience and not money. Not only is it useful for first-timers, but for people who are already in the industry and want to build up their crew/production team, this website comes in handy for those aswell.

When you add the projects that you’ve worked on and once you have completed the project that you have worked on, you are able to add that skill to your profile. For example, Photography. This will be listed in green, the tags that aren’t in the colour green show that you have not demonstrated it in a project. This skill will then appear on your profile, for everyone to see what you worked on, and will allow you on projects based on your experience. This image shows how you can personalise your portfolio so you can choose how your profile is seen. It is really easy to navigate around and not many buttons to press.

cahootifyy

Cahootify is completely different to other social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, and when I say different I mean it’s nothing a-like. It’s not a place to add your friends from School, or to organise a party. It is a platform to further a filmmakers career. It’s speciality is to recruit and make projects. That’s not to say that Twitter, Facebook and Instagram shouldn’t still be used. They definitely should. One way to use Cahootify can use Twitter is so measure their online success as a platform. By using these social media platforms, Cahootify is able to measure how many times a tweet has reached their audiences, or who ‘liked’ a Facebook post. A good way to measure your online influence is the website KLOUT. On Klout you are able to connect Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social networks to this site, you are also able to schedule your posts so you don’t have to be online 24/7. As well as that you receive a  ‘klout score’ of your impact on social media. The average Klout score is 40 and users with a score of 63 are amongst the top 5% of all users. It also shows you your impact online by a  graph over a 90-day score history. It is a great tool for measuring success.

Here is an example:

klout-90-day-score-history

But if Linkedin exists for building a profile for your career why do you need Cahootify?

Linkedin and Cahootify are completely different websites with different goals to achieve. Linkedin was invented as a career system whereas Cahootify was invented for showcasing your projects. Cahootify focuses on one thing, and that is for filmmakers whereas Linkedin is to manage your professional identity and to build a network. Cahootify uses Linkedin for a professional online presence as it links back to their website so people can access it from the Linkedin platform.

linkedin

Cahootify and Twitter

The way Cahootify uses Twitter as a way to create a professional online identity can be through the use of personalised messages via direct message or tweeting their twitter handle to create a conversation. This shows that the people who use Cahootify are approachable and friendly as there is no chat designed to have a friendly conversation, the messaging system on Cahootify is used to organise the projects. These conversations on Twitter would be useful when planning the project and to know when to take part or ask any questions to the project creators. Twitter is a great way to boost your online presence in an easy way.

Cahootify and Facebook

Cahootify uses Facebook to promote projects that people may be interested in. It is also a page where it can interact with more people. However, a Facebook user has to ‘like’ the page before-hand to get their statuses. So those who know of Cahootify beforehand will of come to the Facebook page to stay updated on projects so they don’t have to be on the Cahootify website all of the time. (Cahootify currently is not an app that can be installed onto a mobile device). I asked Pete from Cahootify about expanding their website and he wrote back saying. “We’d love to bring Cahootify out on Android and Apple apps, but at the moment we’re a small part-time team of collaborators and don’t have the resources to do so on top of developing the web app. If/when we get some major funding in, or if we find an app developer that wants to join us on the same basis as the rest of the team, we’ll get to it.” I also think creating an app would be a future feature i’d like to see hopefully some time in the future. So by using Facebook to let people know of up coming projects, and interesting information about film related stuff.

Cahootify and Instagram

Instagram is a photo sharing website. This platform is used to upload pictures of the people who work at Cahootify. This allows users to see a friendly face. Instagram is a great way to expand as a company aswell, by providing the correct hash-tags on the photo. This then allows people to view that image, and the Cahootify profile because they clicked on a hashtag relatable to that user.

Cahootify and YouTube

YouTube is a video sharing website, allowing users to create and upload content of their own. Cahootify doesn’t use this social media platform, however it is a great way to build up a professional profile and a different unique way to connect to an audience. YouTube is fast growing with the amount of daily users per day and it would be a great way to advertise and promote Cahootify to a different level.

Above all, when using these four websites it is ideal to make the best use out of the Folksonomies and Taxonomys system to achieve the best possible results. This could be as simple as, tagging your content with relevant stuff, as it draws in people who are interested in the same stuff.

Below is an infographic I made of how I see Cahootify connecting and expanding their online presence by the use of these 4 social media’s.

cahootify connections

This infographic is a quick summary of what I spoke about earlier. A film-maker is able to use all of these social media platforms to create a professional identity online.

Cahootify is a great platform for any age users who have a passion of film, media and entertainment. This is a great opportunity for any up-coming film makers wanting to have more experience. Not only this, other platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram are all useful websites to creating a professional online presence. It is important to have a good online presence because of consistency. If your audience notice that you don’t care about them, they won’t care about you either. If you don’t build up a good portfolio online, you are less likely to be taken seriously.
